Mintonye Elementary School students sported school-supplied, NASA-approved, Solar Eclipse glasses and waited patiently for the clouds and rain to clear, Monday afternoon. The chances of seeing the eclipse looked bleak at first. Teachers and small groups of students took moments, throughout the peak viewing time, to safely view the eclipse. All students were amazed and in awe of the eclipse, realizing the rarity of such a sight. Staff took moments to step outside and enjoy the view as well.
Many classrooms celebrated with themed snacks, such as Moon Pies and Sun Chips. Some classes participated in Solar Eclipse themed crafts, such as making moon sand. Mrs. Clevenger's third grade classroom documented the air temperature and cloud measurements to submit to NASA.
Photos from classrooms and solar eclipse viewing were plentiful. We cannot wait for the next viewing in 2024!
