The Tippecanoe School Corporation welcomes a 10 year veteran of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office as its new School Resource Officer (SRO). Deputy Nathan Beever fills a vacancy created when the TSC appointed Aaron Gilman as the new TSC Safety and Security Manager. Deputy Beever joins Rob Rush, Beth Fraizer, Steven Stonerock and Jason Morgan who serve nearly 14,000 students at 22 TSC locations.
The school resource officers are the result of a partnership between the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Tippecanoe School Corporation.
“Our SROs do an amazing job of building positive relationships with our Tippecanoe School Corporation staff and students, and I am certain that Deputy Beever will be instrumental in continuing to grow our program in a positive way,” says Tippecanoe County Sheriff Bob Goldsmith. “Our SROs are tasked with a lot, but they come to work every day with a smile, work hard, and do all they can to help create a safe and positive learning environment for our teachers and students.”
Deputy Beever holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, has 10 years of experience in law enforcement, and a strong desire to mentor youth.
“This is an excellent opportunity to work with students and strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and our school families,” says Deputy Beever. “I’ve coached youth sports for several years and enjoy the positive impact you can have with children. I am looking forward to doing more of that in my new role at TSC.”
School Resource Officers (SROs) promote a safe learning environment through educating and building relationships with students and staff members. While they serve as law enforcement officers, their primary focus is on helping young people learn about personal responsibility and how to make good decisions. SROs are in the classroom providing positive educational programming, in the hallways, lunchrooms and playgrounds engaging students in conversation and activities, and collaborating with school administrators and staff to evaluate and improve safety procedures that promote student safety.
Deputy Beever will receive additional safe schools training this fall before starting in his new role with the TSC.
