Three TSC schools earn Superstar status

The sponsors of the Food Finders Drive Away Hunger Food Drive have named three TSC schools as "Classroom Superstars." Dayton Elementary School, East Tipp Middle School and Harrison High School raised the most pounds of food during the event. Representatives from Food Finders Food Bank, Tate & Lyle and Neuhoff Media presented a check for $1,000 to the winning schools December 11.

Dayton Elementary collected more than 5,000 food items. Principal Ryan Simmons says boys were challenged to bring in cans of corn, while the girls donated cans of green beans. That contest generated a lot of excitement and donations for the food bank. Simmons says some of the prize money will be donated back to Food Finders, while some will be used to support the school's backpack program.

East Tipp raised a record amount of food: 17,958 pounds. Principal Shaad Buss says the food drive is a tradition for their community. The students plan to donate the prize money back to Food Finders.

At Harrison High School, students donated nearly 2,000 pounds of food during a food drive. Principal Cory Marshall says the money will be used to fund student council projects that benefit students, as well as community efforts like the Hoops for Hope campaign that supports the Make A Wish Foundation.

Shamus from Neuhoff Media says the Classroom Superstars program brought in more than 40,000 meals with about a dozen schools participating. "It's our hope we can get more schools involved in 2020," says Shamus. "Our goal  next year is to help more families in need by collecting 50,000 meals."
