This school year, the Mintonye Student Council, comprised of three 4th grade representatives and six 5th grade representatives chosen by their peers, organized several fundraisers, including the popular candy gram event in February. Their hard work and dedication resulted in raising $400, which was donated to the Isaiah 117 House, an organization dedicated to supporting children transitioning into foster care. With an estimated cost of $300 to support one child, the Student Council’s donation will have a meaningful impact.

On Friday, May 16, Student Council members had the opportunity to meet with a representative from the Isaiah 117 House to present their donation and learn more about the organization’s mission. The representative shared insights into the upcoming opening of the facility and how it will serve children in need.

"We really felt like we were doing a good thing. We thought about how if we were in the position of [children entering foster care], we would want that love, care, and support to help us feel better. We know that a little money can go a long way, so we were happy that we could donate a lot of money to help them more," said Hadley, a Student Council member.
