Mintonye Elemantary Kindergarteners take on a STEM Project
Kristy Delp

Students in Ms. Schurman’s class engaged in a STEM building project using various shapes and flat sticks. They read Little Red Riding Hood and discussed if there could be a shortcut to get to grandma’s house then maybe the ending of the story would be different .

Students were given a time limit to build a bridge that could help Little Red Riding Hood get to her grandmother's house before the wolf got there. Students started by drawing a picture of their bridge and then were able to construct it.  There was a wide variety of designs. Ms. Schurman's class also discussed how engineers can modify plans if the first plan doesn’t work.
