First Graders Learn About Seeds at Mintonye Elementary
Kristy Delp
Mrs. Helms' First grade glass has been studying plants in the classroom. To wrap up the plant unit, each student planted grass seeds in a milk carton. The students' faces were glued on to each carton, when the seed became grass, the grass is the “hair". This unit taught the lifecycle of plants as well as helping teach responsibility. The students were responsible for planting the seeds, watering the seeds, and trimming the grass once it grew. They each had fun taking care of their plant buddy. The students are took them home recently after they gave them one last “haircut.” In addition to the grass seed, the class also planted marigold, sunflower, and tomato seeds.
