First Graders learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Kristy Delp

First Graders in Miss Grover's class did a lesson on Friday, January 14th in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The class watched a BrainPop Jr. video and learned about the impact Dr. King had on the world. The video led to a discussion where the class discussed prior knowledge about Dr. King and new information the video taught them. The class also learned about Dr. King's specific goal and impact as well as the overarching message, which was to treat all people with equal respect and kindness. The class read the book "My Little Golden Book About Martin Luther King Jr." by Bonnie Bader. Finally, the class did a writing activity where they wrote about how they can change the world like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The class wrote about treating all people with kindness. Miss Grover said, " One of my goals as a teacher is to help my students grow when it comes to character and being their best selves." This lesson provided a great opportunity to not only touch on a very important event that happened, but also a way for the first grade students to reflect on how they treat others and what they can do as young people to spread love and kindness.
