Fall Leaf Day Brings Learning to Life in Kindergarten at Mintonye Elementary
Kristy Delp

Fall colors aren’t just decorating the trees! Mrs. DeGolyer’s kindergarten class at Mintonye Elementary was filled with excitement during their recent Fall Leaf Day. One of the highlights was a graphing activity where students learned about real graphs using actual leaves they had collected. Each child carefully examined the leaves before sorting and graphing them according to color, shape, and size.

This hands-on classification activity helped the boys and girls sharpen their observation skills while learning about the different types of trees in our area.

The most energetic part of the day was the “Loose Leaf Toss” game, where students practiced position words while having a blast! Each child tossed leaves into the air several times and described where they landed using terms like above, beside, between, inside, and outside.

One student summed it up best: “I love sorting the leaves and seeing all the different shapes. This was a super fun day!”
