The Drug-Free Coalition of Tippecanoe County will celebrate Red Ribbon Week October 16-21, 2017. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention awareness campaign. The coalition hosts a kickoff breakfast where their 2017-2018 RISE representatives, local businesses, Purdue coaches, local school representatives, and selected students will begin Red Ribbon Week strong!
Schools celebrate Red Ribbon week in a variety of fun ways to spread awareness and to get their students to vow to be Drug-Free. Students and staff will wear red satin ribbons and Mintonye Elementary will raise awareness with a variety of fun themes daily.

- Tuesday: Crazy Sock Day
- Wednesday: Hawaiian Day
- Thursday: School Spirit Day
- Friday: Pajama Day
Red Ribbon Week is sponsored nationally by the National Family Partnership, formerly National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth, a nonprofit organization meant to prevent drug usage. The first Red Ribbon Week took place in 1985. The Red Ribbon is a symbol meant to raise awareness of the destruction caused by alcohol and drug usage in the United States.
