The Indiana Council for Economic Education has named Barbara Tilley of Mintonye Elementary School as a finalist for the 2017 statewide Olin W. Davis Award for Exemplary Teaching of Economics. Tilley's class created a business by converting recycled plastic bottles into "zipottles" (organizers for school supplies), toss it games and ping pong ball launchers. By the end of the project, they kept more than 700 plastic bottles from going in the trash.
Each finalist will receive a check for $500 and a plaque honoring their accomplishments in the field of economic education. Tilley will be recognized during a reception June 19 in Indianapolis.
