Mintonye celebrates a milestone
Mintonye Elementary School is celebrating 50 years of serving families in Tippecanoe County. The school opened in 1967 with the consolidation of Romney, Jackson and Shadeland. Later, West Point Elementary became part of the Mintonye attendance area.
Mintonye has had five principals: Mr. Hunt (1967-1971), Mr. Miller (1971-1973), Mr. Kendall (1973-1977), Mr. Price (1977-1999) and Mr. Skaggs (1999-present).
Mintonye celebrated its anniversary during an open house August 17. Principal Rob Skaggs says Mintonye is a community school. It's a place that brings us all back together. "The open house was like a family reunion. We spent most of the time catching up with each other after hugs and handshakes," says Skaggs. "Many parents say it feels like they've come home when they are at Mintonye."
