A huge thank you to all of the very generous Pioneer families and community for the 2,743 pounds of food donated in five days! In the midst of a hectic calendar that included the Scholastic Book Fair, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and Red Ribbon Week, our student body generated much support for the yearly food drive. This year's drive was hosted by Mintonye Fourth Grade Girl Scout Troop 2896 and featured fun daily themes, such as Wild Card Wednesday, where contributors could have Wild Hair for the day.
Classrooms compete to see who can "outweigh" the others in total pounds of food donated. Mrs. Pruitt's first grade classroom has secured the title of 2017 "Heavyweights" with a total donation of over 270 pounds.
The Drive Away Hunger Food Drive, to benefit the Lafayette Food Finder's Food Bank, has been a tradition at Mintonye about as many years as Mr. Skaggs has been our principal. The drive continues to be hosted, primarily, by both the girl scouts and boy scouts, alternating from year to year. In 2016 the Boy Scout Pack 3325 collected 3,737 pounds of food securing the inaugural Food Finder's "Take the Wheel" award! We won't know how the Pioneer's 2017 efforts will compare to other schools for a while, but the many families that will benefit from the thousands of pounds of food are thankful for our efforts now.
Thank you, again, for being a caring and kind community!
